Another body parts murder near KL

PETALING JAYA - FIRST, a woman's leg cut off at the knee was found in Salak South on Sunday.

Then, the headless torso of a woman was found near Sunway Lagoon, about half an hour away, on Monday.

The naked torso was discovered in the early afternoon by a motorcyclist who stopped to rest near a monsoon drain in the residential area of Sunway Mentari, not far from the resort popular with Singaporeans.

The right leg was found dumped in a rubbish bin by some workers in a shopping area.

Police are now trying to determine if the torso and the leg belonged to the same person.

Petaling Jaya police chief Arjunaidi Mohamad said the authorities found several shirts, a skirt and a blouse piled on top of the torso. They were believed to have been dumped there less than 24 hours earlier.

'We believe the victim, aged between 20 and 30, was murdered elsewhere and dumped in the bushes near the monsoon drain.

'The victim has yet to be identified as no personal documents were found,' he said.

The remains have been taken to the Kuala Lumpur general hospital for DNA tests to see if they belonged to the same person.

'The head, arms and legs were cleanly cut off and there was no other injury mark on the body,' he said.

Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi said the police were also waiting for test results to establish if the victim had been raped.

The case is a throwback to the gruesome find of the dismembered body of a Singaporean man in an old refrigerator in a luxury condominium last July.

The body parts were discovered by the new owner who had just collected the keys to the apartment in the upmarket Mont Kiara suburb. A woman suspect was arrested but later released due to lack of evidence.

The piece-by-piece discovery of body parts is also reminiscent of the Lily Chua murder case in the early 1990s.

Her spurned lover, Gan Wei Seng, had cut her body into 11 pieces, wrapped them in newspapers, put them in plastic bags and dumped them in Jalan Langgak Tunku in Kuala Lumpur.

Gan was sentenced to 12 years' jail in 1994 after pleading guilty to manslaughter but was released after eight years for good behaviour.
