WP official brave in voting non-opposition

AFTER reading the article, 'I voted for PAP in 2006 election: WP candidate', I must say that Mr Yaw Shin Leong, a leader of the Workers' Party, has the right to vote for who he deems fit even though he may be a leader of an opposition party.

What he has done is courageous and must be complimented. He is neither a political opportunist nor a hypocrite. Why must Singaporeans vote for the opposition just for the sake of opposing? Do we want to vote for an opposition Member of Parliament who does not keep his or her promise or cannot deliver what he has promised to the constituents? Do we need to make that mistake and wait until the next General Election to correct it?

The role of an opposition party or an MP from the opposition party is to check the government. Electing an incompetent opposition MP will be detrimental to Singapore's future.

An opposition party must be a watchdog and not a mad dog. So what if Mr Yaw has led his team to contest against Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his team in Ang Mo Kio GRC?

Does it mean that he should vote for the opposition even though he believes that the opposition candidate is unlikely to deliver on promises made to the constituency?

It is important to vote for the person and not the party. It is the people who create the party and care for the country and not vice versa.
