Burns from gas fire led to woman's death

HIS wife was having trouble connecting a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder to a portable stove, so Mr Idris Omar got out of bed to help.

But just minutes later, there was a loud explosion and flames engulfed the kitchen of their home, leaving his 66-year-old wife Hajjah Hasiah Hassan with severe burns to her face, hands and legs.

Two weeks after the March 23 fire, she died of blood poisoning caused by the burns, a coroner's court heard yesterday.
