Two new treatments for heart patients

RESEARCHERS here have developed two treatments that promise to give heart patients a new lease on life.

Both involve using stem cells, drawn from the patient's bone marrow and which have the potential to develop into any type of cell in the body, including heart cells.

One treatment involves using secretions from stem cells to reduce the amount of scar tissue developed after heart attacks or heart bypass operations. This scar tissue weakens the heart in the long run.
