Ditch those packets of instant mee goreng from your luggage the next time you pack for an overseas trip because the days of pining for familiar food in a foreign land are over.

Increasingly more Singapore restaurants are opening overseas, so you can get a taste of home wherever you are. Since 2000, no fewer than 17 Singapore eateries have spawned 300-plus outlets in 20 countries, including far-flung places such as Mongolia, Russia and the Middle East.

And they are proving a gastronomic hit not only with homesick Singaporeans but also with local residents.
