The Straits Times

By stephanie yap

He might not have the pretty- boy looks or beefcake physique of the typical television hunk, but veteran actor Lim Yu-Beng, 43, exudes an unaffected ruggedness when you meet him in person at his shophouse in Joo Chiat.

His wiry frame is clad in slightly grubby T-shirt and jeans, and he moves with a muscular, cat-like grace as he obligingly strikes poses for the camera on his Suzuki GSX-R 600 motorcycle.

It is a toughness and an agility that is reflected in his choice of roles. The actor is perhaps best known to most Singaporeans as the salt-of-the-earth Sergeant Alan Leong of the TV series Triple Nine, whom he played for four seasons from 1995 to 2000.
