Now, the future of Singapore's Olympic heroine Feng Tianwei has also been thrown into doubt - along with Singapore's chances of retaining their silver medal at the 2012 London Games.
Feng, 21, who was discovered by Liu in 2006, was the best player in the women's table tennis team when they won a historic silver at the Beijing Games in August.
Fair offer
THE two-year contract that was offered to national table tennis head coach Liu Guodong was a fair one, said the Singapore Table Tennis Association.
Responding to Liu's claims that the deal stripped away many of his responsibilities and did not match his salary expectations, the STTA's chief executive Chew Soo Sheng said the terms of the new offer 'were fair and incorporated a substantial salary increase'.
He said: 'There is also a normal hierarchy in place, in which Liu would have to report to the new team manager Eddy Tay and technical director Loy Soo Han.'
