Travel binge? Time to save, not succumb
Fri, Oct 31, 2008
The Straits Times

I REFER to Monday's article, 'Recession? Not for the year-end travel sales'.

I was shocked that many Singaporeans are spending by succumbing to the lure of the travel bug despite the dire state of the economy. We should be trying to drastically cut our expenses and save to stave off potential bad turns.

It also shows how financially naive we are. People travel using credit cards and then try to pay them off later. We live by spending first and paying later, spending money that we do not have. The huge debts young Singaporeans chalk up these days are alarming, committing to housing loans they can't really afford after their marriage.
