THE China-born wife of opposition politician Tan Lead Shake is hoping to have the murder charge against her reduced, said her lawyer Subhas Anandan yesterday.

He refused to say how he planned to make a case for this, but accused persons have been known to escape the gallows on the strength of psychiatric reports showing that mental disorders diminished their responsibility for the act.

A pre-trial conference date has been set for Nov 11 to discuss the matter, a district court heard.
