KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - Malaysia's efforts to have a mechanism to disseminate information on missing children to the public in the shortest time possible has not taken off as the authorities appear uncertain as to who should handle it.

The plan for a Nationwide Urgent Response Information Network (Nurin) Alert came after the brutal murder of eight-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin. whose body was found stuffed inside a gym bag in September last year, more than a month after she went missing.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Ng Yen Yen told the New Sunday Times that the Nurin Alert is not part of the Child Protection Policy (CPP), which will be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
