A DOCKWORKER who drowned after falling into the sea was not wearing a mandatory safety harness the day he died and had routinely ignored rules meant to save his life, a coroner heard yesterday.

Mr Sasman Salleh, 38, was working on a container ship last November when he lost his balance and fell into the water off Tanjong Pagar. He was not wearing a safety belt that would have strapped him to the ship.

A colleague rushed to help, but Mr Sasman had already slipped under the surface. His body was found a day later, an inquest into his death heard.
