Japan on edge after attacks

TOKYO: Workers and visitors at Japan's Health Ministry had to be scanned by metal detectors yesterday before they were allowed to enter the premises.

Security was tightened after stabbings at the homes of two former pension officials on Tuesday left two people dead.

The Health Ministry, which oversees the pensions system, has also submitted a list of current and retired bureaucrats for their protection to the police.
