The smile has gone from Gianfranco Zola's face. His face is gaunt, the hair receding fast and the eyes seem to have aged seven years after seven games without a victory.
The scowl on the face of Roy Keane is less in evidence now that he, like Zola, has traded playing for managing. His match-day stubble is grey beyond his 37 years.
They compete this evening as managers of West Ham and Sunderland. Their fame, like that of Diego Maradona, eclipses any player in their charge.
