Top cop takes three bullets to the chest

MAHARASHTRA'S anti-terror police chief Hemant Karkare visited India's best known police officer Julio Ribeiro on Tuesday for advice on how to deal with the political pressures of his job.

Never flinch from duty, the older man advised.

Less than 36 hours later, Mr Karkare, 54, died doing just that.
