HONG KONG: The wife of former National Kidney Foundation (NKF) chairman Richard Yong 'lost it' after hearing her husband had been made a bankrupt following a civil suit brought by the charity's new board, her lawyer told a Hong Kong court yesterday.
Hours after hearing the news, On Shu Kio left Singapore for Malaysia with a friend.
Mr Yong chased after her, worried she might hurt herself, something she apparently tried to do years earlier when she learnt he was having an affair.
Durai blamed for troubles
ON SHU KIO'S lawyer blamed former National Kidney Foundation (NKF) chief executive T.T. Durai for landing his client in the mess she is in today.
In mitigation, he pointed to Mr Durai's 'ill-considered' decision in 2004 to sue Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) for defamation without consulting the board of directors.
As the lawyer traced how that act led to On moving money to Hong Kong from Singapore, he laced his narrative with words such as 'arrogant' and 'selfish' to describe the former CEO.
