THE Football Association of Singapore will be reviewing its security during major football matches - in light of the violence which broke out after Sunday's Singapore-Vietnam AFF Suzuki Cup match at the National Stadium.

Several skirmishes broke out between rival fans in and around the stadium after the Lions' 0-1 semi-final second-leg loss.

According to eye-witnesses, the clashes resulted in injuries for the often-outnumbered Vietnamese fans, some of whom were allegedly left with bloodied faces after being assaulted.

Act now on football violence

THE message sent out should be loud and clear: We will not tolerate football hooliganism.

Sunday's violent scenes at the National Stadium after Singapore's 0-1 defeat by Vietnam in the Suzuki Cup semi-finals were both disturbing and shameful.

Rude words were exchanged, followed by harsh hand gestures. Then came the blows and the flying plastic bottles; in some instances, blood was spilt.
