A motley crew of 86 young musicians have formed Singapore's newest symphony orchestra, The Orchestra Of The Music Makers, and will stage a concert, Tales From The Arabian Nights, this Saturday, playing pieces from Wagner, Dvorak and Rimsky-Korsakov.

Aged between 18 and 22, the group is made up of tertiary students, NSmen and working professionals. Most have classical music training from being in youth or school orchestras.

Founding member and chairman Lee Guan Wei, 21, says: 'We felt this need to form a group for people who were musically talented and trained, but decided not to pursue music as a full-time career for economic or personal reasons.
