SINGAPOREAN Melvin Lee had just ushered in the new year at the swanky Santika Pub in Bangkok when the place went up in flames yesterday.

The 21-year-old national serviceman was one of two Singaporeans injured in the early-morning blaze. A third Singaporean man, Mr Teo Sze Siong, died.

Mr Lee, who was treated for first-degree burns to his face, ears and arms, had planned his trip to coincide with the pub's New Year's Eve countdown.

In another update, the Singaporean who was killed in the blaze was identified as Mr Teo Sze Siong, 38, an air traffic controller.

The other Singaporean injured has been identified as Ms Adeline Tok Chai Lin. Over 200 people were injured in the blaze, according to information obtained from Bangkok police. About 30 of the injured were foreigners.
