THE recent plane crash in Johor, which landed trainee pilot Sanjay Purushottam in hospital with a broken leg, has once again put the spotlight on the safety of flying schools across the Causeway.

Following a spate of accidents - including two that involved Mr Purushottam's flight school, Elite Flying Club - Malaysia's Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) had suspended training activities for all private flying schools in June last year.

After an audit of its operations, Elite Flying Club was given the all-clear to resume flight training only in December last year. Its licence expires in November and can be renewed but is subjected to DCA's approval.
