THE results are out for Singapore's most popular brands, services and products last year, as picked by consumers and readers of news website AsiaOne.
AsiaOne, owned by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), held its first awards ceremony on Wednesday, although the annual People's Choice poll started two years ago.
The website wants to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the award winners during these times of doom and gloom, said AsiaOne editor Adrian Tay.
Candidates were first shortlisted for the 11 award categories by a panel of representatives from SPH's various titles and AsiaOne, before being put to a vote on the website.
A total of 11,000 votes were cast over a two-month period that began in December. Categories ranged from the most popular budget cars to fashion labels and private schools.
Winners in the different categories include Apple's iPhone, the POSB Everyday credit card and Changi Airport.
Mr Lawrence Leow, president of the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises and the event's guest of honour, said companies that have developed brands that consumers trust will continue to do well in times of uncertainty.
'With the IT-savvy generation, the Internet is a platform that companies cannot ignore as part of their long-term branding and marketing strategy,' he added.
