IN THE same week that Ryan Giggs was chosen by his fellow professionals as the English Premier League's Player of the Year, he notched up his 800th appearance for Manchester United.
But he came off the substitutes' bench to do it.
This was a first leg of the Champions League semi-final, and manager Alex Ferguson decided that before his ageing wonder should be called upon, the team needed the vigour, the energy and the pace of youth to subdue Arsenal.
