NEW YORK: United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon has surprised international diplomats after belatedly disclosing the wedding of his only son in New York on Saturday, Yonhap news agency reported yesterday.

According to UN officials quoted by the South Korean news agency, the 'confidential' wedding ceremony for Mr Ban Woo Hyun, 35, and his 27-year-old bride, Ms You Je Young, was held at a small cathedral in Manhattan, with only relatives and about 150 guests in attendance.

The UN chief had wished to celebrate the occasion as a quiet family event, the officials said, adding that the family declined gifts from guests.
