JAKARTA: - The prospect of the opposition Indonesian Democratic Party - Struggle (PDI-P) forming an alliance with its archrival, the Democratic Party of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, looms large as political parties prepare to name their candidates for the July presidential polls this week.
Talk of a possible tie-up has been rife since Vice-President and Golkar chairman Jusuf Kalla announced he was teaming up with former military commander Wiranto of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) to contest the election.
Another reason was the apparent failure of talks between PDI-P and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) to form a presidential team after Gerindra's chief adviser Prabowo Subianto insisted on becoming the presidential candidate.
