SAF officers to retire at 50

THE Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) yesterday announced sweeping changes to its career schemes for regulars, including a key one that will raise the retirement age for officers to 50.

Another radical change: Creating a new branch of the military, where soldiers who specialise in areas such as maintenance, engineering, nursing and intelligence will get a new rank structure and can retire at 60.

Few, if any, militaries in the world have such a scheme.
