$1m promotion

MR MURALI SHARMA: 'I am shocked to learn that the Land Transport Authority will provide $1 million to help promote taxi ridership. This is a subsidy for the taxi companies by another name. Taxi firms should operate under their own steam. They should work out ways of cutting costs without hitting the pocket of cabbies.'

Dumped alive

MR BENNIE CHEOK: 'I was horrified to read yesterday's letter by Miss Rayne Gan, 'Dog found dumped beside rubbish bin'. What the dog owner did is both heartless and detestable. Miss Gan and her friends should be commended for their kind acts. They fed the starved animal and took it to a vet for treatment. Mahatma Gandhi has said: 'The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.''

Bad manners

MS CHERYL NG: 'I was appalled at what I saw while driving yesterday morning. When all vehicles stopped at a traffic light, a front-seat passenger in a BMW to my right - a very 'polished' woman - opened her door and emptied a cup of unfinished Milo or chocolate drink on the road. How can people behave so badly?'
