Hong Kong tycoon eyeing Singapore as home for family

Hong Kong - Hong Kong tycoon Richard Li is planning to settle his girlfriend Isabella Leong and their newborn son Ethan in Singapore, according to newspaper Apple Daily.

Last week, he said mother and child, born in April, would temporarily live in North America to avoid media scrutiny.

On Sunday, he reportedly flew from Hong Kong to San Francisco to see them.

Superbaby Ethan

Hong Kong - At just over a month old, Ethan Li Cheung Chi has become a minor media celebrity.

The son of tech-billionaire Richard Li and Macau-born actress Isabella Leong remained a hot topic in Hong Kong Chinese newspapers yesterday since news of his birth was reported by Apple Daily last Friday.

Li, chairman of Hong Kong telecom company PCCW, told Apple that he and his girlfriend had not discussed marriage yet.

Rags to riches tale

Isabella Leong's story follows the classic rags-to-riches arc.

Her Chinese mother struggled as a casino croupier to raise Leong and her elder stepsister after Leong's Portuguese father died. Leong was then not yet a year old.

She dropped out of secondary school to help her family and was talent-spotted and signed on for 10 years by the Emperor Entertainment Group after she appeared in a magazine at age 12. From age 15, she started cutting records and working on movies and advertisements.
