Amidst the commotion caused by an Englishman's collapse yesterday, a little-known Japanese player quietly crept up the leaderboard.

Tokyo resident Kodai Ichihara moved into a share of the lead after making two birdies on his opening seven holes to sit at eight-under for the Barclays Singapore Open.

'I'm just trying to enjoy the golf,' said the relaxed 26-year-old, who secured his Asian Tour card for next season after finishing in a tie for fifth at the Johor Open last week.
