FOR the past 19 years, Dr Geoffrey Tan's marriage has been full of secrets. Until recently, when he won the Defence Technology Individual Prize, his wife - a primary school principal - had no idea he worked with explosives on a daily basis.

The award given by the Ministry Of Defence recognises contributions to defence technologies here.

Because such work is classified, it meant the father of two had to keep his family in the dark about the projects he was working on.
