FORT SILL (OKLAHOMA): A dull thud accompanied by huge puffs of smoke, and it was game over for the enemy armoured column. Four laser-guided bombs had found their targets.

For the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) F-16 fighter pilots peeling away from the battlefield, it was the first time they got to drop 900kg live bombs in air-to-ground manoeuvres.

It is not something they can do in Singapore's limited live-firing training areas, but here in the expanse of the Fort Sill training grounds, it is as real as it can get.
