BEFORE he jumped to his death, taking his only son with him, Mohamed Farook Ali Akbar had left various notes to family members and close friends.

The 36-year-old senior database administrator left instructions to his wife on how to claim insurance. He encouraged her to be brave and remarry, and to forget about their eight years of marriage. He was also concerned about his health, particularly the chest pain he was experiencing.

He told his sister in a letter that he did it because of his health problems, and that he did not wish to leave his seven-year-old son 'an orphan'.
