Samy Vellu may leave next year

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S. Samy Vellu is reportedly stepping down in May or June next year, reported local media.

He is likely to end a five-decade-long career at a grand send-off at the 64th MIC general assembly, senior party leaders told news portal Malaysia Insider yesterday.

His deputy Datuk G. Palanivel, who narrowly defeated rival Datuk S. Subramaniam on Sept 12,will take over as acting president, they said.
