British quartet Buzzcocks, who are playing at Zirca this Friday, are considered one of the most influential punk bands who pioneered the genre back in the mid-1970s.

The pop-punk template - short, catchy and melodic songs played with a raw and fast backbeat - that they helped to invent influenced many bands who came after them.

Even though the fans whom they inspired went on to form multi-million-selling outfits such as Green Day and Nirvana, mainstream popularity and success have eluded the Buzzcocks themselves.
