THEY are articulate, self-assured, and often juggle children and careers. Some have master's degrees, and even PhDs.

It is hard to imagine them as abuse victims, but the proportion of tertiary-educated women seeking help for family violence has doubled in recent years.

Meanwhile, more women - and men - are also seeking counselling voluntarily, rather than being forced to do so by the courts.
