FOR three months last year, Bukit Panjang resident Tan Say Kiat, 32, went car-free and made his daily journeys on public transport.

While commuting to his workplace in Woodlands was relatively fuss-free, going anywhere in the city was challenging.

A bus ride takes about 45 minutes and there is only one direct bus from his home in Senja Road. Taking a bus to the nearest train station and then a train to town would take even longer - as much as 90 minutes.
