A UNIT of Singapore's investment company Temasek Holdings has bought a 10 per cent stake in a Vietnamese telecommunications company, the first investment by a Singapore firm in this sector of one of Asia's fastest-growing economies.

The deal is worth 20 billion dong (S$1.5 million), according to a Dow Jones report.

It was announced yesterday at a press conference in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi, attended by Vietnam's Deputy Information and Communications Minister Tran Duc Lai, as well as diplomats and business executives from both countries.
