  • The Enlistment Act stipulates that all male Singapore citizens and permanent residents (PRs) must register for National Service (NS) upon reaching 16 years old.
  • They will serve two years' full-time NS at 18 years old, followed by 10 years in the Operationally Ready status.
  • First-generation PRs are exempted from NS. Such PRs include professionals, skilled workers or investors.
