This photo taken on August 5, 2014 shows local residents searching for their belongings amongst collapsed buildings in earthquake-hit Ludian county in Zhaotong in China's Yunnan province.

TWO seven-month pregnant women survived the 6.1-magnitude earthquake in China's Yunnan province by encouraging and supporting each other while they were buried by rubble.

Li Zhaohui, 22, and Ai Fuling, 21, who are good friends from Longtoushan, were holding each other's hands when they were rescued at Li's house three hours after the quake, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Li's husband Hong Shubing said he rushed to the toppled house and started to dig through the debris using a steel bar.

"For the sake of our babies, we must stay strong," the women were quoted as saying.

The two sustained minor injuries.
