AsiaOne | Lam Min Lee | Monday, Mar 20, 2017

Two men were killed on March 16 after a freight train slammed into a car that was travelling across a railway crossing.

The accident took place in Fujian, China, on a rainy night.

CCTV footage showed the horrific moment where the train rammed into the right side of a black sedan and caused it to overturn and land on the nearby field.

After the collision, the train driver called an ambulance for help, CCTV News reported.

However, only the car driver survived the crash. He sustained light injuries while his two male passengers died on the way to the hospital.

The police detained the driver for investigations.

This incident highlights the danger of using such railway crossings, as the one in the video clip was poorly lit and had only a stop sign and a dim traffic light.

There was also no safety barrier or traffic guard rails installed at the site.

After the fatal crash, the local railway department is planning to set up a permanent sentry box at the railway crossing.
