Tragic end: Policemen and firemen carrying Hussin's body down the slope after he was killed in what is believed to be a botched kidnap attempt at Bukit Relau in Jalan Bukit Gambier.

GEORGE TOWN - A Bangladeshi construction worker was found killed after a botched kidnap attempt at Bukit Relau in Jalan Bukit Gambier.

The naked body of Hussin Md Alahi, 39, was found deep inside a jungle by his friends at about 1.30pm yesterday.

Initial probe suggested that he could have been strangled by his captors using his T-shirt.

Hussin and his friend Mozibur Rahman, 33, had been earlier held captive by a group of Myanmar nationals said to have demanded RM240,000 in ransom from the victims' friends on Friday.

Somehow, Mozibur managed to free himself and escape early on Saturday morning before lodging a police report.

Police immediately launched a search and rescue operation but it was called off at 7pm when it got dark.

Yesterday, together with the victim's friends, police discovered Hussin's body which was about 1km from the site where both he and Mozibur had been held captive earlier in the jungle.

Police had to call in the firemen to retrieve the body due to several steep slopes. The body has been sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.

Penang Hospital's senior consultant forensic pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh, who was also at the scene, said the victim had died less than 24 hours due to strangulation.

Hussin and Mozibur had earlier received a phone call from an unidentified caller, who sought their service to fix kitchen cabinets at a flat in Bukit Jambul.

When they reached there, they were approached by a group of people who introduced themselves as policemen.

The bogus cops then wanted to bring them back to the police station after accusing the two of having in their possession fake passports.

Once in the car, the two were blindfolded before being driven to the jungle.
