Just three months after she came from India to join her husband here, Ms Jasvinder Kaur was murdered, her decapitated and dismembered body thrown into Whampoa River.

The 33-year-old beautician's body was found in a canal near Block 110 in McNair Road, clad only in a pair of black trousers, wrapped in plastic bags and trash bags on Dec 12.

She was identified on Wednesday through forensic evidence, although her severed hands and head have not been recovered.

The police are looking for her husband, Indian national Harvinder Singh, 33, to assist in the investigation. He is believed to be a suspect.

The senior logistics coordinator, who was here on an Employment Pass, is believed to have fled the country just 30 minutes before his wife's body was found.

He is said to have left on a bus through the Woodlands Checkpoint at about 7am that morning.

At a media briefing held at the Police Cantonment Complex yesterday, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Adrian Quek said that a suspect, a 25-year-old man also from India, was arrested on Wednesday in Sims Drive. The forklift driver was at his workplace when he was nabbed.

He had been here for about three years and is Mr Singh's friend.
