JAKARTA - The Jakarta Police said on Wednesday a home robbery that took place in Depok, West Java, on Tuesday might be connected to robberies that recently occurred in the municipality and South Jakarta.

"We are still investigating whether they are connected because according to witness testimony, the method used to gain access into the home - inquiring about someone living there - was also used in robberies that took place in Depok and South Jakarta," Jakarta Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said at the City Police headquarters.

Eight robbers took a safe containing valuable certificates and 50 grams of gold from Oktarina Suryaningsih's home in Depok on Tuesday afternoon.

To gain access into the home, the five suspects pretended to be visitors. Once inside the home, the suspects tied together the hands of Octarina's child and maid with shoelaces.

While holding firearms and batons, the robbers asked the child to show them where the safe was. Octarina was not at home when the incident took place.

Following the robbery, Octarina filed a report with the police in Sawangan, Depok.
