Male subject arrested over Bedok South flat fire that landed man in hospital

SINGAPORE - A male subject was arrested in relation to a fire that broke out at a second floor unit of Block 3, Bedok South Avenue 1 on June 24.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident was a "case of mischief by fire."

Stomp contributor Khai arrived at the scene after the fire had been extinguished, and related to Stomp over the phone and via email:

"Patrol cars and fire engines including the mobile squad and Red Rhino together with an ambulance were seen at Bedok South Avenue 1.

"According to onlookers and neighbours, there had been a fire at a second floor corner unit."

This is the statement from the police spokesperson:

"Police received a call on 24 June at about 10.05pm, requesting for assistance at Block 3, Bedok South Avenue 1.

"Upon police arrival, it was established that a case of mischief by fire had occurred at the said location.

"A male subject was arrested in relation to the case.

"Police investigations are ongoing."

A spokesperson from the SCDF said:

"We received a call for assistance at 10.20pm.

"We sent two fire bikes, two fire engines, one Red Rhino and one ambulance to the scene.

"Fire involved contents of the kitchen toilet, and was extinguished by SCDF using dry powder and a hose reel.

"As a result, a male Chinese, 46 years old, was conveyed to CGH for smoke inhalation."
