Man admits to burying woman's body under slab of cement

The Brunei Times/ANN | Syazwan Sadikin, | Tuesday, Sep 23, 2014

A college counsellor yesterday admitted to concealing the body of the woman under a slab of cement last year.

Hj Harith Hj Bakir, who pleaded guilty to all four charges, told the Magistrates' Court yesterday that he was in a state of panic and confusion when 40-year-old Voon Su Ching suddenly died.

A court document submitted by Prosecuting Officer Mohammad Danial DSP Hj Kifrawi stated that Hj Harith panicked when Voon, with whom he was having an affair died.

Instead of reporting her death to the police, he disposed of and concealed evidence that might have led to discovery of his presence with the deceased at the time of her death.

Voon collapsed and died suddenly on February 13, 2013, after spending the morning together with Hj Harith at a house in Kg Salambigar that belonged to her friend, Mary.

Voon had the spare keys to the house and Mary was away for Chinese New Year in Tawau, Sabah, at that time. Prior to this, the defendant and the deceased had often met at the house.

The defendant disposed of the body in a 10-foot ditch within the compound when he was unable to carry the body to his car. He then used zinc roofing and surrounding shrubs to cover the body.

After cleaning the house, Hj Harith took Voon's car and abandoned it behind an electrical power station near Kg Salambigar before walking back to the house.

Hj Harith, a father of four, was also charged with misappropriating the deceased's belongings.

Her belongings were later discarded at Giant Supermarket except the monies amounting to $7,167.90, RM803.85 and a Singaporean five cent coin, a gold locket and a $40 Easi Card.
