Police are investigating a robbery that happened along Orchard Road on Monday.

The incident, which happened at about 6.50am near Palais Renaissance, left a female victim in her 30s bleeding on her face.

An eyewitness told Chinese evening daily Shin Min that about 15 minutes before the robbery, she saw a man and woman having a heated argument.

"She was shouting at him and was very agitated," said the 50-year-old stall assistant.

"But he was expressionless."

Another food stall assistant later saw the woman in the argument lying on the pavement and bleeding.

About seven police officers were subsequently spotted at the scene, said the Shin Min report.

They took away two bags of evidence containing watches and a camera. A baseball cap and a pack of cigarettes were also taken from the scene.

The victim was unable to provide a statement because of her injuries. She was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Police have classified the case as a robbery and are investigating.
