Woman jailed for illegal entry to Brunei

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - An Indonesian woman has been jailed for one year after she pleaded guilty to re-entering Brunei after she had been barred from doing so.

Puji Astuti, 30, was arrested with four others at a house in STKRJ Sungai Buloh on November 28.

The Anti-Vice Unit raided the premises after a tip-off from the public on possible immoral activity.

On December 12, the Anti-Vice Unit handed the defendant's passport to the Immigration Department.

The department's database showed that Puji was barred from entering Brunei from August 15.

Further investigations revealed that Puji was lawfully removed from Brunei on June 29 after being involved in an earlier immigration case.

However, Puji attempted to enter Brunei twice in September while fully aware that she was barred from entering the country.

She was refused entry through the Sungai Tujoh Immigration Control Post on her first attempt on September 10 using a new Indonesian passport.

However, she managed to slip through the same control post on September 29 without producing her passport and her entry went undetected.
