Woman reports to police over possible rape of eight-year-old daughter

KUALA LUMPUR - Worried that her eight-year-old daughter could have been raped, a 36-year-old mother lodged a police report against three neighbourhood boys, ages nine to 12.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said the woman was at her Seri Kedah Flat home when her neighbour's children approached her and told her the news at around 9.30am on Thursday.

"The children said her daughter was sexually assaulted by a group of boys living in the neighbourhood," said SAC Gan.

"When she questioned her daughter about the incident, the little girl broke into tears.

"She lodged a police report so she could bring her daughter in for medical assessment," he added.

SAC Gan said although medical tests showed that the child was not raped, police will investigate the case for outraging of modesty under Section 354 of the Penal Code.

"We have recorded a statement from the girl and her mother and so far, we have not detected criminal elements in the case.

"We have also assigned a counsellor from the Sexual Investigation Division for the girl," he said.

He said police would record the boys' statements depending on the investigations.
