Principal fined in bribery case

OHOR BARU - A secondary school principal was fined RM5,000 (S$1,900) by a Sessions Court here after he pleaded guilty to receiving a digital camera as a bribe four years ago.

Zainuzzaman Mohd Salleh, 50, who is the principal of SM Vokational Tanjung Puteri committed the offence at his office in December 2010.

He had accepted a Canon Ixus 130 worth RM730 from Norizan Sahardin as an inducement to award Norizan with a contract to clean the school's premises and hostel.

Zainuzzaman was charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine or both upon conviction. Zainuzzaman paid the fine.
