Cigarette sales: Raise minimum age

The Straits Times | Thursday, Apr 17, 2014

The rise in the number of young smokers is astonishing, and it is not uncommon to see young adults puffing away outside their workplaces.

Teenagers in school uniforms can also be seen smoking at public places near their schools.

The smokers are affecting not only themselves.

Non-smokers have to endure the stench of second-hand smoke, and cleaners have to remove cigarette butts discarded as litter.

Shouldn't the age at which one is allowed to buy cigarettes be raised to 21?

Also, anti-smoking campaigns and public education should start for those in primary and secondary schools.
