Betong blast: 100kg homemade car bomb behind deadly explosion

ALOR SETAR - A car bomb rocked the town of Betong in southern Thailand when it exploded in front of the Holiday Hill Hotel killing three people, and leaving more than 55 injured as of 10pm.

The incident occurred at about 4.30pm, Thai time.

The blast shattered glass windows of shoplots nearby including damaging a few cars.

The blast was believed to be cause by a 100kg homemade bomb.

A 28-year-old Malaysian indentified as J. Jeemihan, was injured in the blast.

Betong is in the Yala Province in southern Thailand.

The region suffered great violence and political instability during the premiership of Thaksin Shinawatra.
