KUALA LUMPUR - A woman trying to flee from the police drove a stolen vehicle recklessly and rammed into four cars before the drama ended with the arrest of her accomplice - a wanted car thief - in another location.

The 47-year-old man was nabbed at the Sri Delima community hall in Kepong, not far from where his partner in crime was arrested for reckless driving in Jinjang Utara on Sunday.

Following the man's arrest, the police seized a stolen Volkswagen and tools used to break into vehicles.

The police also picked up a 17-year-old girl who had been with the 32-year-old woman before she sped off in the Honda CRV that was reported stolen in Brickfields.

Relating the events leading to the arrests, Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said that acting on a tip-off, the police found the Honda CRV near a primary school at about 3pm. The patrolling policemen then spotted the woman and the teenager walking towards the car.

"The woman got in and the teenager was just about to enter the car when the police moved in," said ACP Munusamy.

"The teenager was detained on the spot. The woman hastily sped off and knocked into three parked cars in front of the school.

"She drove to Jalan Permai, where she crashed into another parked vehicle."

ACP Munusamy added that the getaway car then skidded off the road.

"The driver tried to flee on foot but the police managed to arrest her."

The woman led the police to the man, said to be the mastermind behind a spate of car thefts.

"We arrested the hardcore thief, believed to be her boyfriend, on the same day," he said.

"His modus operandi involved breaking into houses and stealing the owners' cars."

Asked if the teenage girl was the daughter of the pair, ACP Munusamy said: "No."

It has yet to be established if the girl has any family ties with the two adults.

The case is being investigated under Section 379A (1) of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
